Brian Popko, PhD

Scientific Advisor

  • Professor of Neurology, Scientific Director of MS and Neuroimmunology at Northwestern University.

Dr. Brian Popko is the William Frederick Windle Professor of Neurology and the Scientific Director of the Division of Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Popko has over 35 years of experience examining oligodendrocytes, the glial cells that generate and maintain the myelin sheath in the central nervous system. In addition to his laboratory’s important contributions to our basic understanding of the myelination process, the studies conducted in the Popko Lab have provided critical insight into neurological disorders like multiple sclerosis that result in the disruption of this critical component of the nervous system. His ongoing work on enhancing the ability of oligodendrocytes to repair demyelinated axons is designed to lead to new treatments for these conditions.
