Co-Founder, Professor Guoping Feng (MIT/Broad) Inducted into the National Academy of Sciences

Medford MA, May 2, 2024 – Professor Guoping Feng, a distinguished neuroscientist known for his groundbreaking research in the fields of neurobiology and genetics, has been elected as a member of the prestigious National Academy of Sciences (NAS). The induction recognizes his significant contributions to the scientific, medical, and patient community and his outstanding achievements in the field of neuroscience.

Dr. Feng, currently serving as the Poitras Professor of Neuroscience at the McGovern Institute for Brain Research at MIT, has dedicated his career to unraveling the mysteries of brain function and neurodevelopmental disorders. His innovative work has shed light on the molecular mechanisms underlying neural circuit formation and function, providing critical insights into conditions such as autism spectrum disorders and schizophrenia.

Among Dr. Feng’s many accomplishments is his pioneering research on the role of synaptic proteins in neural circuit development and function. His studies have illuminated how disruptions in synaptic signaling pathways can lead to cognitive and behavioral impairments, laying the groundwork for potential therapeutic interventions.

Dr. Feng’s research has been widely recognized and has earned him numerous accolades, including the NIH Director’s Pioneer Award and the Society for Neuroscience Young Investigator Award. He is also an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a member of the National Academy of Medicine.

The National Academy of Sciences is a private, nonprofit institution that advises the nation on science, engineering, and medicine. Election to the NAS is considered one of the highest honors bestowed upon scientists in the United States.
